Second Harvest  Curriculum is a family run business.   Our family has been homeschooling our three children since 1990.  And have been working together as a family in the used book business since 1993.  This business was created as a way to teach our children business. It started in one room in our basement, by the third year it had filled most of our basement... even the laundry room and the bathroom! In 1998 my husband remolded an unused farrowing barn (for you non-farmers that is a maternity ward for sows) He disinfected, painted, laid flooring, created rooms, and laid tile in this barn to create a wonderful place to work and have a book store.

  Our oldest child, Laura,21,is attending The University of Nebraska Omaha and is majoring in History. She will be graduating this May! Her love for history was birthed in the mountains of books she read for home school. Our son, Josh, 20, is in his junior year at UNO. He achieved his Associates Degree from a local community college at the age of 18. Joshua is majoring in International Studies and studied in Finland over the summer at a "Sister University" Our youngest son, Jacob,16, has finished his first semester at\ a local community college. He loves school and enjoys the challenges that it brings. Jake belongs to Campus Crusade Bible Study and also has used his passion for Star Trek to create a club that meets bi-monthly. PRAISE GOD!!! We have found that moving our children from "hot house flowers" to the real world is going smoothly and for that we give all the credit to God!

  The time we have spent homeschooling has gone way too fast. But the rewards and  things we have learned will last an eternity.  At this point in our life, I would describe as a "bitter-sweet "time.  I am sure you mothers understand that statement. A time when I am delighted my children are growing and moving into the areas that God  has planned for them...but sad because it has just gone too quickly!
